Monday Morning: Do the First Move Before the Inbox

A Monday rule for working fathers: do the first work move you named last night before you open the inbox, the group text, or the schedule app, then circle it done.

Last night’s issue asked you to name Monday’s first work move in one sentence. This morning is the part that counts. Today’s 1.1% is one rule: the first move happens before anyone else’s list gets a vote.

The 1.1% for today

1. Read the sentence once (30 seconds). Find the note from last night. Read Monday’s first move out loud, or under your breath. If you never wrote one, write it now in one sentence and keep it small enough to finish in the first hour.

2. Do it before you open anything else (the first hour). No inbox, no group text, no schedule app, no news until the first move is done or clearly under way. If the first move needs the inbox, like sending a quote, open the draft directly and send it. Do not scroll on the way there.

3. Circle it, then let the day in (10 seconds). When it is done, circle it or put a check next to it. Then open everything else. If the morning blew up before you got there, write about five words on why and stop. “Supplier call came first.” That is enough.

Why it works

The inbox is a list of other people’s first moves. Open it first and your morning gets spent sorting their priorities before you touch yours. Doing one named action first does not fix the whole week. It gives Monday one finished thing before the noise starts, and that finished thing is easier to build on than a plan.

Today’s question

Did you get the first move done before the inbox? Hit reply with “yes” or “no” and the five words. I read every one.
